National Reports

1. National Family Health Survey 2019–21 (NFHS-5)

  • The Total Fertility Rate (TFR), or the average number of children per woman, declined from 2.2 to 2.0 at the national level between NFHS-4 and NFHS-5.
  • The overall contraceptive prevalence rate increased significantly from 54% to 67% in the country.
  • The stunting level among children under five years declined slightly from 38% to 36% over the last four years.
  • Between NFHS-4 and NFHS-5:

    • Use of clean cooking fuel increased from 44% to 59%.
    • Improved sanitation facilities increased from 49% to 70%.
    • Hand-washing facilities with soap and water improved from 60% to 78%.

  • In NFHS-5, more than three-fourths (77%) of children aged 12–23 months were fully immunized, compared with 62% in NFHS-4.
  • Institutional births increased significantly from 79% to 89% in India.
  • The proportion of pregnant women who received antenatal care (ANC) visits in the first trimester increased from 59% to 70% between NFHS-4 and NFHS-5.

2. Global Forest Resources Assessment (GFRA) 2025

  • India has moved up to 9th position globally in terms of total forest area according to GFRA 2025.
  • Earlier, India was ranked 10th, and it has maintained its 3rd position globally in annual net gain of forest area.
  • The world’s total forest area is approximately 4.14 billion hectares, which accounts for about 32% of the total land area, equal to roughly 0.5 hectares of forest per person.
  • India contributes about 72,739 thousand hectares of forest area, which is roughly 2% of the world’s total forest cover.
  • Europe has the largest forest area, accounting for 25% of the global total, while South America has the highest proportion of forest cover, with 49% of its land area under forests.

  • On World Environment Day 2024, Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India, launched the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign.

SpaDeX (Space Docking Experiment)

SpaDeX (Space Docking Experiment) ISRO द्वारा विकसित कम लागतको प्रविधि प्रदर्शन मिशन हो। यस परियोजनामार्फत अन्तरिक्षमा rendezvous, docking र undocking प्रविधिको परीक्षण गरिएको थियो।

13 March 2025 – undocking प्रक्रिया सफलतापूर्वक सम्पन्न भयो।

यो मिशन बेंगलुरु, लखनऊ र मोरिसस स्थित ग्राउन्ड स्टेशनहरूबाट निगरानी गरिएको थियो।

Payload

PS4-Orbital Experiment Module (POEM) प्रयोग गरिएको थियो। यो PSLV रकेटको spent fourth stage प्रयोग गरेर तयार गरिएको हो।

महत्व

यस मिशनपछि अन्तरिक्षमा docking प्रविधि प्राप्त गर्ने विश्वको चौथो देश भारत बनेको छ।

SpaDeX (Space Docking Experiment)

SpaDeX (Space Docking Experiment) is a low-cost technology demonstration mission developed by ISRO to test rendezvous, docking, and undocking technologies in space.

Two small spacecraft were used in this mission:

  • SDX01 (Chaser)
  • SDX02 (Target)

Each satellite weighs around 220 kg.

They were placed in a Low Earth Orbit at an altitude of 474 km with a 55° inclination.

Launch

  • 30 December 2024 – Launched using the PSLV-C60 rocket.
  • The two satellites were initially separated by 10–20 km and later performed rendezvous.

Docking

  • 16 January 2025 – Docking was successfully completed from a distance of 15 meters through precise maneuvering.

Undocking

  • 13 March 2025 – Successful undocking was carried out.

The mission was monitored from ground stations in Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Mauritius.

Payload

  • PS4-Orbital Experiment Module (POEM) was used, which is developed using the spent fourth stage of the PSLV rocket.

Significance

  • With this mission, India became the 4th country in the world to achieve space docking technology.
  • Previously, this capability existed only with USA, Russia, and China.

Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4)

Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) is a private crewed spaceflight mission sent to the International Space Station (ISS).

The mission was operated by Axiom Space in collaboration with SpaceX and NASA.

Third Launch Pad

ISRO is developing a Third Launch Pad (TLP) at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
